A loan of $1,700 helped to buy kitchen applicances for her food business.

Dalis Ester's story

Dalis, 51, has two children, 29- and 17-years old, respectively. She operates a business making and selling prepared foods. She makes deditos, empanadas, etc., plates them on plastic trays and sells the trays on to her friends and neighbors or to the small shops in her neighborhood. She started the business in Barranquilla after picking up the relevant skills for it in Cartagena. She supports herself with income from the business. Her goal is to expand her customer base to include customers in Cartagena as well as customers in Barranquilla. Her biggest challenge is competition from other similar businesses. She has to make better products, prepared to an ever-higher standard. Dalis is applying for a Kiva loan, supported by Fundacion Mario Santo Domingo, that she will use to buy a commercial-grade mixer, a blender and a display case.
