Maria Elena's story

Maria Elena, age 33, is married and has three children, ages 16, 15, and 10. The children go to school. She lives in Cofradía, Cortes.

Maria has had her grocery store business for three years. She sells basic needs food items like beans, rice, lard, flour, sugar, bread, and other grocery products. She considers her business to be profitable because her daily income helps her to pay for some of the family’s expenses. She devotes herself to working all day.

She has had three loans with ODEF, and she says that they have helped her a lot in sustaining her business. She is now requesting her fourth loan for 5,300 lempiras to stock her grocery store with food products. She will do this in order to continue offering her customers a variety of products. This way she will get good earnings from her business.
