Manana is 37 years old. She lives in a small village on the seaside in West Georgia. Manana is a widow who lives with her children, a 17-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son and her 71-year-old father-in-law. Her children go to school. Manana works as an office cleaner for a local company. In addition to her main job, she runs a family agricultural business with her father-in-law's help. They own an 0.2 hectare citrus garden. The family also grows maize and 100 nut trees on a family-owned 0.15 hectare of land. Manana sells harvested products at the local open market. The total average monthly income of the family is 470 Laris, including Manana’s father-in-law's monthly pension.
Manana has requested a loan in order to enclose the nut garden. This will protect the harvest against theft. Manana also plans to plant additional nut trees. She will sell more harvest and increase her family's income. Manana will use the increased income to improve the family's living conditions.
