A loan of $525 helped to buy magazines, pamphlets and articles for carnival.

Lucia Silvia's story

Lucia is a member of the “Las Mensajeras” communal bank located in Juliaca District, San Román Province and Puno Department. She’s 59 years old, married and has two children (one independent). She did not complete higher education.

She’s been working with the Manuela Ramos Movement for six years. She tells us that her initial loan was for 300 new soles that was to increase capital in her business selling magazines and newspapers.

She will ask for a new loan in the amount of 1400 new soles to buy merchandise like magazines, pamphlets, etc. She will also buy merchandise for carnivals. Her husband helps her with the business. She also works in textiles.

Her dream for the future is to make more progress in the business and that her children get ahead. What she likes best about her communal bank is the ease of loans, the meetings, the talks and the solidarity.
