Seferina Apolinar's story

Seferina is a member of the “Santiago Apóstol” communal bank located in Paucarcolla District, Puno Province and Department. She’s 51 years old, a widow and has six independent children. She has never attended school.

Seferina has been working with the Manuela Ramos Movement for the last five years. She tells us that her first loan request to Manuela Ramos was for 300 new soles that she used to increase working capital for her business which consists in buying and selling small farm animals like sheep and pigs. In time her capital increased gradually and the business improved the same way for now she not only sells small farm animals but also sells regional products and soft-drinks, cookies, snacks and cheese.

She will request a new, 2,100 new sol, loan to buy ten boxes of cookies, snacks, soft-drinks and animals to fatten up to then sell in the street markets in her community. She works alone in the business. Her dream is to stay in business. What she likes about the communal bank is to share the joy with her fellow members, the punctuality and the responsibility.
