Valerie, age 59, is married with 6 children. Only one of her children is still in school. She provides and cares for 3 of her grandchildren, who range in age from 5 to 11. She runs a retail shop where she carries many different household items, clothing items, and pagnes. Pagnes are colorful African fabrics used primarily for dressmaking.

She has had this business for 11 years. Valerie has gained valuable experience and a large customer base throughout these 11 years. Her business' success is due partly to her great customer service. She offers refunds on unsatisfactory items and allows some clients to pay on credit. She will buy fabric, robes, door mats, and sheets with the loan she receives.

She hopes her business will continue to expand allowing her to travel abroad to buy inventory for her store. She believes she can get better prices and variety if she shops outside of Brazzaville.

Valerie has received 3 previous loans from Kiva's partner, HOPE Congo. She has a good repayment record with them. She is happy to be receiving the loans and dreams of building a home for her family one day.
