A loan of $1,125 helped to buy shelving, a display case with three levels, and products to stock her store.

Lourdes's story

Lourdes is 35 years old. She is married and with her husband has 5 children, which they love and care for greatly. The whole family lives in the city of Ica, which is known for being the biggest exporter of asparagus and artichokes in the world. Her husband is currently working in artisanal mining, which allows him to provide for his family what they need to cover the daily expenses. Lourdes also works an average of 12 hours a day, tending to her small store with the goal of contributing to the family's income.

She told us that she is self-taught regarding this type of business. On a daily basis she usually helps an average of 35 customers. She provides good service to her customers so that now they trust her and return to make their purchases in her store. Lourdes knows that it is always good to have extra income, which is why in the evenings she sells 'frituras' (a deep fried snack) to the people that live in her neighborhood.

With the help of Kiva lenders, Lourdes will be able to buy shelving, a glass display case with three levels and also some products to stock her store. With these new display cases she hopes that her customers will get to know and try more of her products, which will allow her to increase her profits. With her increased profits she wants to increase her capital and eventually become a wholesale distributor, which is her great dream.
