A loan of $950 helped to buy groceries to sell.

Suyapa Maribel's story

Suyapa, age 31, has four children between the ages of 2 and 14. She is married, and her husband is a painter. She lives in a rural village in the La Másica municipality, Atlántida.

For six years Suyapa has been selling groceries (basic grains, wheat flour, chicken consommé, salt, and sugar). She also sells hygienic and cleaning products. She started her business with her own savings and with the help of loans.

She is currently requesting a loan for 18,000 lempiras. She will use the loan to expand her business and to increase her inventory so that she can offer variety to her customers.

She states that she is motivated to get ahead because the income that she gets allows her to supply her family’s necessities. In the future Suyapa hopes to have a mini supermarket.
