A loan of $1,900 helped a member to buy products she needs to make ice-cream.

St Francois D'assise Group's story

This solidarity group is made up of nine women. It was established when the Banc Villageois opened. The nine members of the group all live in the same town and their main business is retail.

Catherine, age 52, is responsible for the group. She's standing on the right in the photograph, raising her hand. She's married and the mother of three children. She also has her step son in her care.

Her part of the loan will enable her to buy products she needs to make ice-cream, namely hibiscus, monkey's bread (baobab tree fruit), and sugar.

Her revenue will enable her to improve the standard of living of her family and bolster her savings.
