A loan of $650 helped to buy fruit, vegetables, yams, pumpkins, cheese and whey.

Arcelia's story

Arcelia, 36, lives in the southwest of the city with her spouse and three children whose ages range from 6 to 19 years. She’s been living in the city of Barranquilla for 12 years since she left her native Copey in Cesar Department with her family in search of a better future for all of them. When she arrived at her parents’ house she started to sell fruit to help with family expenses and later on started to sell cheese and whey brought from Copey. With this activity they’ve been growing together as a family and they now have a house of their own. Her goal is to continue growing so that her children will become successful professionals.

While working toward reaching her dreams, she manages an accounts receivable of 7 days and a two day stock inventory turnover; her profit margin on sales is no less than 40%. Her greatest challenge is to obtain enough working capital to respond to growing clientele. This is why she’s calling on a Kiva loan to buy fruit, vegetables, yams, pumpkins, cheese and whey. Her investment augurs success because it’s based on prior customer orders and because her experience guarantees a good management of the transactions.
