A loan of $500 helped to buy drinks.

Maria's story

Maria is 38 years old, married and the mother of three children. She lives in Ouéléssébougou (a sub-prefecture of the 2nd administrative region of Mali), which is 80 km from Bamako.

Maria left school very early due to marriage, and she is involved in the Soro Yiriwaso loan programme in order to improve her business selling drinks as an itinerant vendor. This is her fourth loan, and she has repaid all the others in full. With this loan she hopes to restock her business, buying 700 racks of drinks in order to be well-supplied for a long period of time. Her suppliers deliver directly to her.

Maria is expecting a monthly profit of 200,000 CFA francs, which she will use for repayments and daily costs. In the future, she hopes to be able to open a larger drinks store in order to sell in bulk.
