Danaya Group's story

DANAYA is a grouping of four women who on average are 35 years old, have four children, and live in nuclear families in Tiele, one of the communes in the subprefecture of Baguineda (2nd administrative region of Mali).
They are on their fifth collaboration with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to satisfy the needs of their customers. This group of women do business in rice, meat and food service with Kadia, who is the present of the group and second from the right in the photo.
She count on buying three bags of rice and a big bag of spices with the loan. She stocks up from wholesalers in the big market in Tiele and in markets around the area. She prepares and sells in the market and at home, doing retail sales to a customer base composed mostly of women, for cash and on credit.
She imagines making a monthly profit of 25,000 francs, of which one part would be used to support her husband in everyday expenses and the other part would be invested in her business.
