A loan of $650 helped to buy construction materials.

Karina Sofia's story

Karina, 46, lives in the town of Malambo, 20 minutes from the city of Barranquilla, with her only daughter, 21. Her administrative abilities do not come from her particular studies but from her aptitude for them and from her experience, because during many years she managed the business of a friend while he was abroad.

Taking advantage of her natural entrepreneurial potential, she managed to save and bought a hardware store that already had been in the area for three years but that had become stagnant. With her instinct for business, she managed to organize it and make it produce, helped by her daughter, who studies part of the time and works in her business the rest of the time.

Currently she is applying for a Kiva loan, the first financing she has received from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, with which she will buy construction materials because it is what her customers buy most. She wants to meet their demand promptly because it is a very well located business and she needs to prove herself to the whole community.

The potential for success of this investment is that, with it, she will manage to give an effective response to her customers at a time in which many businesses do not do this. Also, Karina's instinct for business certainly will take her on the road to progress in the company of her only daughter, who is her unconditional support.
