Luz Vivinda's story

Luz, 32, has two children, who are four and nine. She started working as a merchant 12 years ago in a town located 30 minutes from Barranquilla; with the assistance of her mother in law, she moved to this city and built up a little money with which to work and, together with her husband, to support their children. Her current business consists of selling cleaning products, although she has also added a great variety of merchandise and beauty products, which she promotes through specialized guides and catalogs. As she is a hardworking women, she also generates additional income by selling food, especially fish. Her desire to expand has led her to seek a Kiva loan, her first financing with the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. She will use the money to buy cleaning products, such as detergents, disinfectants, washcloths, and brushes, and she expects the investment to be a success, since it is based on orders from her clients and will allow her to rotate her inventory more rapidly. Her dream to get ahead is to have a shop selling cleaning products by wholesale, as well as selling them retail, person to person, as she has done up to now.
