A loan of $1,250 helped a member to buy building materials such as cement and sand, for the construction of a family home.

Patrick's Group's story

Introduced to you in the photo above are teachers from a primary school situated in Koidu/Kono, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. Like their colleagues from other regions of the country, they have requested a loan of 5,400,000 Sierra Leonean leones (SLL) from Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org based in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone. With this loan, they will be able to meet their immediate financial challenges. At the end of each month, they will repay the loan using their monthly salaries.

The leader of this group of teachers is Patrick. Born in Sewafe, in eastern Sierra Leone, the fifty-six year old is married with two children, one of whom is attending primary school. With thirty-five years of experience in the teaching profession, Patrick is requesting this loan in order to buy building materials like cement and sand, for the construction of a family home.
