A loan of $1,025 helped to pay for fresh meat for her shop.

Sylvie's story

Sylvie is a 42-year-old single mother of 2 children. One child is in high school and the other is in college. She provides and cares for her granddaughter as well. Sylvia has been operating her butcher shop for 1 year. She started selling yogurt in the market and has since expanded to selling meat. She will use the loan to buy fresh meat to stock her shop. She will buy fish, chicken and beef. She has strategically placed her business in an area with no other butcher shops. Her meat products are in high demand. The lack of consistent electricity is a challenge to her business and she hopes to, one day, buy a generator to keep her coolers running. Sylvie has received 3 previous loans from Kiva's partner, HOPE Congo. She has a very good repayment record. As her business continues to grow, she hopes to open another butcher shop in Brazzaville. She wants her children to continue their education and to be able to attend a university.
