A loan of $1,075 helped to buy a fabric cutter and fabric.

Celandia Edelmira's story

Celandia is a 41-year-old woman, the mother of two children, ages 12 and 8. Together they live in the Abraham Calazacón parish of Santo Domingo, which is the fourth largest city in Ecuador. The population is growing rapidly because it is rich in trade and has the largest livestock market in the country. The normal temperature is about 25.5°C and sometimes reaches 38°C. The entire Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas province is part of the mountainous region. The entire province is considered new because it was created in 2007.

Celandia has had a dressmaking workshop for 18 years. She learned this job by taking classes. She wants to buy a fabric cutter and more fabric to increase her production and lower her production costs, and so increase her profit margin. Her work is in high demand because she works with quality. Her dream is to have a big workshop and be able to give work to more people. She works an average of nine hours a day.

She loves her work. This is her first loan with Fundación Alternativa, which is the intermediary institution between Silvia and the Kiva lenders at the worldwide level. Nevertheless, in her credit evaluation she always has been punctual with the loans she has received previously. She likes Fundación Alternativa because of the ease it offers and the service of the advisor.
