Rosa Gerardina's story

Sra. Rosa is a member of El Cisne Communal Bank. She lives in El Valle parish, also called San Bautista de El Valle, which is located southeast of Cuenca. This parish is famous for its agricultural production. Also its people are devoted to raising small animals and to commerce and many work in the city of Cuenca. El Valle has attractions such as Cochapamba Lake (full of cattails) and several other places to visit.

Rosa is 35 years old and married with 5 children, ages 21, 18, 16, 7 and 3. Her oldest son works and studies at school and the two that follow work and help her financially. Her fourth son studies in a little school in the city. Her husband works in the area in construction as a bricklayer. The house is their property.

Rosa engages in household tasks. As she spends most of her time at home, she also raises chickens, guinea pigs, pigs and rabbits, which she sells in her community and on market days.

She is a founding member of the communal bank and she will invest her new loan in the purchase of chickens, guinea pigs and pigs to continue with this endeavor.

Her goal is to have a larger breeding farm in order to expand her business.
