Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,050 helped to buy vegetables.

Mercedes's story

Doña Mercedes is 42 years old, married, and has 7 children between the ages of 8 and 24. She lives in the neighborhood of El Carmen de Taulabe, Comayagua.

Doña Mercedes generates income through her business of selling vegetables that she established five years ago at the local market. She sells all types of fresh vegetables. Mercedes is a hardworking woman and her efforts have enabled her children to move forward and helped her husband with the household expenses. She has been able to succeed and now has two vegetable stands, one of which is managed by her daughter. Mercedes begins her work very early so that she can serve her customers.

She is requesting her first loan in the amount of 20,000 HNL so that she can buy fresh vegetables. This will allow her to offer high-quality products to her customers. Her goals for the future are to buy her own land and build a house so that her children will have the necessary comforts.
