A loan of $3,200 helped a member to invest in purchasing wholesale pigs and food.

Flor Del Rio 2 Group's story

This group is called "Flor del Rio". Its members decided to give it this name because there is a river in their community on which different kinds of flowers grow. This story is about Alicia who is already part of the group. She is 48 years old and married to Audencio who is a farmer. They have three children, all of whom are married. They have been buying and selling pigs for a living for over nine years. She says that she decided to start up this business as she wanted to find a means of supporting her husband with the household expenses so they could be better off financially and enjoy a good quality of life. She will invest the loan she receives in buying more wholesale pigs and food. Alicia says that her goal is to make her business grow rapidly as she would like to build some premises for a butcher's shop, thereby offering a better service to her customers and also allowing her to earn more money. She would like to thank FRAC and the Kiva lenders for giving her this opportunity and a sense of confidence, but above all for believing in her. It is thanks to their support she was able to invest in her business and as a result have a better quality of life and a better future, together with her family. Lauro, Celerina, Alicia, Jesús y Rosendo make up the Flor del Rio group and they sell agricultural products, cheese, meats and embroidery for a living.
