A loan of $950 helped to buy bananas, charcoal, and gas.

Mercedes's story

60-year old Mercedes is a good, hardworking woman. She’s been married for many years and lives in her own home with her husband and two granddaughters aged 13 and 17. She is educating them and wants to give them a better standard of living. Mercedes sells charcoal, bananas, and soft drinks. She also runs a different business with her son--she sends gas to a mining area where her son sells it to the men seeking gold there. During this past year that she’s been working with her son, the business has done well and the accounts are clear and transparent.

The gas she sells is the cleanest and best quality in the area so she has good customers who always look for her product. Mercedes enjoys her work as she can sell some items in her store while her son is also earning money so between them they bring in good money. She’s sent him gas on ten previous occasions and each time it has gone well.

Mercedes hopes to be able to buy more products that her son can sell so their business can grow. This will be her fifth loan with MFP, and she hopes that with the organization’s help she will be able to achieve her goals. For her part, she promises once again to pay back the money, just as she has with previous loans. She is very happy to be part of her community bank as all the members are responsible, committed people.

With the S/.2,500 loan she will buy more bananas and charcoal for her home business and send gas to the mining area to continue with that business too.
