A loan of $375 helped to buy sacks of fertilizer.

Mari's story

39-year-old Mari lives with her partner Miguel who is 43. The couple have two children who are 12 and 9 years old. This united family lives in Tapo district, in Tarma province. Mari displays her strength when she carries out the work which provides her with what she needs to support her family. She is a farmer and grows potatoes, corn and peas on her own farmland and on additional land which she rents.

Mari says that selling her crops is profitable but first she must invest in buying manure, fertilizers and seeds, and pay workers. Her husband helps her with the hard labor but she doesn't stand idly by. She also grabs the tools and works on the land. In addition, Mari has two cows that provide her with milk. She makes cheese with the milk and sells it in her own town.

One of Mari's next goals is to expand her production. In order to do this she will need to rent more land. In this way, she hopes to provide her children with a good quality of life. Thanks to the recommendation of her friends, Mari will be taking out her first loan with MFP and she gives her word that she will make her monthly repayments on time. She is enthusiastic about belonging to her group (Santa Cruz de Tapo) owing to the supportive work that they do. She will invest her loan money in buying sacks of organic fertilizers for her potato crops which she plans to harvest in May.
