A loan of $750 helped to buy balanced feed.

Maria Mercedes's story

Maria is 52, married, and lives with her two adult children, who are economically independent. She has her own house, located in a small rural settlement called "Fanupe Barrio Nuevo," a few short minutes from Morrope district, which is part of Lambayeque province.

For the last 20 years, Maria has been raising, fattening, and selling livestock such as sheep, goats and poultry. For this purpose she has built enclosures behind her house, where she works every day, feeding them and getting them to the ideal weight and size. This is so that she can sell them to her customers who are in settlements close to hers, or to buyers in the local markets. Her husband works in the fields as a day laborer, supporting the family's household income with his weekly wages.

Maria is applying for a loan of 2,000 nuevos soles from Edpyme Alternativa, that she will use to buy balanced feed. This will assist her animals' growth, and enable her to sell them at a better price. The profits she gets will allow her to fulfill her responsibilites for the loan, and improve her living conditions.
