A loan of $550 helped to clothes, perfumers, costume jewelry, cosmetics, and creams.

Ruth María's story

The Rocafuerte Communal Bank meets every fortnight in the canton of Rocafuerte, a place renowned for the delicious and nationwide famous pastries prepared by the locals. Here we meet Ruth, 66. She is married, she has four adult children and she and her husband live in the house of one of her daughters. Her husband was a farmer but he no longer works. In order to earn something on her own to avoid depending on her daughter she sells clothes and Avon and Yanbal products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes and accessories for ladies). She works every day for two hours a day during the morning, and she sells door to door and by catalog order. She sells on credit and she collects cash in two or three dues, according to the value of the products. What she sells the most are cosmetics and perfumes; she has been engaged in this activity for more than 7 years and things are going very well; thanks to this activity she can pay for her medical expenses and other expenses. The loan she is requesting will be used to buy clothes, perfumers, costume jewelry, cosmetics, and creams and other products. She has been a member of this Communal Bank for 13 years and she likes it because the loans have been a great help for her. She wishes to remain in good health and that her family stays safe.
