A loan of $775 helped to buy fruits and provisions to prepare her sandwiches.

Inés María's story

The Rocafuerte Communal Bank meets every fortnight in the canton of Rocafuerte, a place renowned for the delicious and nationwide famous pastries prepared by the locals. Here we meet Inés, 54. She is married and she has three adult children; one of them is single and still lives with her. Her husband is unemployed for health reasons. To provide for her family now that her husband is unable to work, she engages in selling sandwiches and drinks, running a bar in a school in Rocafuerte. She sells natural juices, fruits and the healthy sandwiches she prepares; she also prepares meals for the teachers and for some students that have lunch in the school. She is currently selling many lunches, and she works to order. She is doing this now that school is closed and there are no lessons, and she therefore needs to earn some money until school starts again and everything gets back to normal. She has been engaged in this activity for 5 years, and she has started it thanks to her first loan. The loan she is requesting will be used to buy fruits and provisions to prepare her meals. She has been a member of the Communal Bank for 5 years and she likes it because thanks to her first loan she has been able to start her activity. Her dream is to run a restaurant in the city center.
