A loan of $1,175 helped to invest in buying clothing and to stock her grocery store.

Tereza's story

Teresa lives in Aguas Caliente, on the outskirts of Teustepe, in the municipality of Boaco. She is 44 years old, married, and has three children who are 23, 22 and 12 years old. She started her business 20 years ago with a loan from a family member who charged her a very high rate of interest. She later worked with loans from an institution called ACJ where she was the leader of her community bank. In this way, she was able to set up her grocery store and start selling clothing as an itinerant vendor. She works with the support of her husband. Teresa needs this loan to invest in buying clothing and to stock her grocery store as the start of the school year is approaching and this is a good time for making sales. As well as selling clothing and groceries, Teresa would like to further expand her business and start selling gold and silver jewelry as this makes good profits. This will enable her to improve her home. She also says that when she has repaid this loan she would like to invest in raising pigs for breeding.
