Teresa Jesus's story

Teresa lives with her husband and their three children in the city of Camana. Camana is famous for its exquisite shrimp, clams, and the charm of its inhabitants who always offer their traditional breads, sweets, and “oquendos” [a sweet pastry]. Camana is the world’s number one producer of large quantities of rice per hectare. Among the rice produced here is the Tacuarí, which is the best and most delicious variety of rice. In addition to producing the best rice, Camana also has the most delicious beans. Camana’s beaches are most extensive and cleanest in the south of the country. Scientists say that they are the most beautiful beaches in the south of Peru and will have a great future at a national level. Like a good Peruvian, Teresa likes food. One of her favorite dishes is the delicious “Puré de Papa” [mashed potatoes]. In her free time, she likes to watch movies with her children, especially if they’re comedies. She only studied up until the fifth year of secondary school, but she would have liked to study to become a seamstress.

Teresa works at her business of renting out housing, since there are many people who come from other cities of the country in search of work and need a place to live. She works every day because she must always ensure that everything is going smoothly and that her tenants do not have any inconveniences.

Teresa is very grateful to the Kiva lenders, because thanks to their help, she will be able to purchase a water tank and pay for its installation. This improvement will allow her tenants to have water all day and be more comfortable. This will allow Teresa do increase her income and continue working every day to fulfill her greatest dream: improving her quality of life.
