A loan of $1,175 helped a member to buy house-building materials for the construction of a family dwelling house.

Tamba Emmanuel's Group's story

Pictured above are primary school teachers from Koidu, a city in Eastern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva based in Makeni, to apply for a loan of SLL 5,000,000. With the help of this loan, they will be able to meet their immediate financial challenges and at the end of each month, they repay the loan, using their monthly salaries. Their school’s bursar is directly responsible for making the repayments on their behalf.

Tamba is the leader of this group of borrowers. The forty-four-year-old is a native of Yendu village, in Eastern Sierra Leone. A teacher for twelve years now, Tamba is married to another teacher and the couple has five children attending secondary schools.

Tamba has requested this loan in order to buy house-building materials: iron corrugated zincs, nails, etc. for the construction of a family dwelling house.
