A loan of $2,100 helped a member to pay school fees for his children and use the rest to buy house-building materials like nails and cement.


Mohamed's Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org based in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you this group of primary school teachers from Koidu in Eastern Sierra Leone. They are requesting a loan of SLL 9,000,000 from SMT/Kiva lenders. With the help of this loan, they will be able to solve their immediate financial challenges. At the end of each month, they repay the loan using their monthly salaries. Their bursar is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Mohamed is the leader of this group of teachers. The 40-year-old is a native of Kpowubu village in Eastern Sierra Leone. He is married to a teacher and the couple have four children who are attending primary and tertiary institutions. Mohamed has served in the teaching profession for seven years now.

He is requesting this loan in order to pay school fees for his children and will use the rest to buy house-building materials like nails and cement.
