Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $4,550 helped a member to increase his working capital, and to buy extra cases of beer (5 cases); to buy bananas for making the local beer, and finally a portion of the loan will be used to pay the rent for his workplace.

Vamwitiro Group's story

Salvator is part of the Vamwitiro group, he lives in Kayanza. He is 33 years old and is married to Clothilde. Together they have 8 children, 5 of whom are studying. The eldest is 19 and the youngest 3 years old.
He sells drinks (Primus, Amstel, local beer, lemonade) in his bistro. He has completed 10 loans with Turame. With the Kiva loan he will obtain, he will increase his stock by buying extra cases of beer (5 cases), bananas for making up the local beer; and finally a portion of the loan will be used to pay the rent on his workplace.
Salvator would like his children to study and to complete their education; thus they will be able to look after themselves in the future. In the years to come, he would like to buy a plot of agricultural land; and he would also like his wife to stop working in agriculture and join him in his business.
