Sahr E.'s Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) is very pleases to present to you this group of primary school teachers from Koidu city in Eastern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, to apply for a loan. SMT/Kiva loans designed for teachers have proven to be very helpful to teachers. Usually, teachers’ salaries are small, making it impossible to invest in anything great. But with the help of these loans, they are now in positions to buy or invest in bigger things, and at the end of each month they repay the loan using their salaries.

Sahr is the leader of this group of borrowers. The 45 year old is a native of Ngandorhun village in Eastern Sierra Leone. A husband and a father of 2 children who are attending primary and secondary school, Sahr has been a teacher for 14 years now. With the help of this loan, he is going to buy house building materials – iron corrugated zinc sheets, sand, nails, cement, etc. - for the construction of a dwelling house.
