Cuenca, Ecuador / Food Production/Sales

A loan of $675 helped to buy an oven.

Luz Cristina's story

Luz is a member of the 'Fe y Alegria' community bank. She lives in the city of Cuenca, the third most important city in Ecuador. This city has both natural and architectural beauty and its people maintain their culture and traditions.

Luz is 60 years old. She is divorced but has six children from her marriage who are all adults. One of her daughters is single and studying at university. Luz does not own her own home and so they live in a rental house.

Luz's health is poor as she is receiving treatment for arthritis and also for an ulcer problem. She has been selling clothing and shoes from her sales premises for 20 years. Three months ago, she also decided to start selling fast food as she enjoys serving customers.

On this occasion, Luz will invest her loan in buying an oven so that she can increase her fast food sales. She likes her community bank because of the support of her friends and the comradeship that exists between all the members.

Luz's dream is to maintain her health.
