A loan of $2,550 helped a member to stock her retail business.

Sin Limites (Cuenca) Group's story

The 8 members of the Sin Limites community bank, 7 women and 1 man, live in different parts of Cuenca. Cuenca is a World Heritage site and the third most important city in Ecuador. Visitors also come here to enjoy the surrounding countryside and the area's famous cuisine. The people here are friendly and supportive of one another. They work hard to maintain local culture. They, like our members, also work hard to support their families and get ahead in the world.

Sra. Angelica, 30, is one of our members. She and her husband have 3 children: 9, 4, and 1, respectively. Their oldest child is a student at a local primary school. Doña Angélica's husband works for a private employer and the couple own the house where they live.

Doña Angélica works as a street vendor. She sells bedding: sheets, blankets, etc. She has operated her business for 7 years, working from Wednesdays to Saturdays, with no fixed hours.

A friend invited Doña Angélica to join the community bank. This is her first loan and she will use it to stock her business with merchandise--blankets, for example--that she will resell.

She wants to help her children study for paid careers.
