A loan of $450 helped a member to build more rental houses.

Faridah's Group's story

Faridah's group is comprised of 2 hardworking women. Faridah is 21 years old and lives in the town of Kyengera in the Kampala west region of Uganda. For the past 4 years, Faridah has been working hard to manage her rearing animals, from which she sells milk.

To help expand her business, Faridah has requested a loan of 400,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to build more rental houses, and will help Faridah to generate greater profits and buy food to feed her family. Faridah hopes that in the future she will be able to become a secretary.

Faridah is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training. The ELA program has increased Faridah's future prospects by helping her to improve her business.
