A loan of $2,100 helped a member to buy building materials such as iron and corrugated zinc for the construction of a house for her family.

Margerette I.'s Group's story

Pictured above are primary school teachers in Magburaka, a town in northern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to apply for a loan. With the help of this loan, these teachers will buy goods, invest in businesses or pay the school fees for their children. At the end of each month, they will repay the loan, using their monthly salaries. Their school’s bursar is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Margerette is the leader of this group of teachers. The 49-year-old is a native of Magburaka. She is married to a trader and the couple has two children, one of whom attends secondary school. Margerette has been a professional teacher for 29 years now. She has requested this loan in order to buy building materials such as iron and corrugated zinc for the construction of a house for her family.
