A loan of $650 helped purchase oil, rice, beans, meat, and plantains.

Mercedes Del Carmen's story

Mercedes is a 38 year old mother of four school-age children. They live in the city of Esteli where she has worked preparing food for four years. She had previously worked as a cleaning lady, but she decided to start her own business so she could earn more. Having her own business has allowed her to help cover household expenses, become more independent from her husband, and help her children with their homework.

She is applying for a loan to purchase oil, rice, sugar, beans, meat, and plantains which are the ingredients she uses to prepare her food. This loan will allow her to buy more supplies and offer more variety to her customers. One of her goals is to own her own restaurant, so she wouldn't have to pay rent. She also hopes to buy cooking utensils, chairs, and tables.
