A loan of $750 helped to hire farm laborers.

Juan's story

Juan, 39 years old, lives with Olga, who is 31 years old. As the result of this relationship they have a son. They live in their own home in the Torrerumi community in the district of Sivia. Juan is a good man of good principals. He makes his living growing cacao and coffee. He has been involved in agriculture since he was very young. He tells the story of how when he turned 19 years old, he already had his own agricultural plot with plantings of cacao in production. Later he married his wife, who always supports him in his agricultural work and with the household tasks. Juan works Monday to Saturday doing what needs to be done to maintain his cacao crop. During this rainy season it is necessary to weed every two months because with so much humidity the weeds expand very quickly through the fields of crops.

Juan is proud of his plantings. Thanks to his production the family built their home.

This is his first loan with Kiva’s partner, MFP, and he commits to make his payments punctually. He is happy with his communal bank because it is made up of good people.

With the 2,000 Peruvian Nuevo Soles (PEN) he will do the maintenance of his agricultural land. To do so, he will hire farm laborers.
