A loan of $1,700 helped to buy an industrial electric mixer with five-pound capacity.

Johanna Carol's story

Johanna is 33 years old. She lives south of the city in a very traditional neighborhood that combines formal and informal businesses, financial activities and trade in general. She has a son who is 6 years old, whom she dreams will become a successful professional and with this in mind she works from day to day in her own business which she started after being unemployed. Even though she had basic knowledge of the preparation of products made from wheat flour, she took a course in bakery techniques and pastries to perfect her art and to obtain sustainability in her venture, which she started two years ago. Her goal is to have her own place where she can locate her shop and also have a store front in the same location, creating jobs in her family. She is currently applying for a Kiva loan, the first loan she has taken out through 'Fundación Mario Santo Domingo', with which she will buy an industrial electric mixer with capacity of 5 pounds, to increase her production and competitiveness. She currently make her products by hand.
