Alberto's story

Alberto was born in the city of Pisaq, and is 51 years old. He has a common-law relationship, from which he has two children. Currently, he lives in the city where he was born, where he has his livelihood. He and his wife Dina have a small restaurant in their home. They prepare a daily mid-day meal from Monday to Saturday, but on Sundays they sometimes prepare traditional meals of the region, such as chicharon (fried pork), adobo (marinated pork in sauce), and others. Alberto needs the loan to buy ingredients such as sacks of rice and sugar, vegetables, meat, legumes, and other things. The members of the "Mosoq Ñusta" communal bank meet every month in Pisaq district, in Calca province (Cusco, Peru). Cusco is known as a very important tourist and commercial area; for its traditional Inti Raymi festival; and because one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machupicchu, is located there.
