A loan of $1,000 helped to buy fabric, thread, buttons, and other sewing materials.

Nieve Marina's story

Every 15 days the communal bank San Agustín gets together in the beautiful city of Calceta; a city known for its hard-working people and beautiful women.

In this place we met Marina. She is 58 years old, is married and has 8 adult children. Two of the children live with her and one is a special needs child. Her husband is a farmer. Many years ago she learned dressmaking at a school in town.

Marina has a small sewing workshop in her home. There she works on projects that people want her to do. They come to her workshop so that she may make them a garment. She can make all types of clothing but she prefers women's clothing because there are more designs available. She works everyday from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and sometimes later if she has a garment due and above all when school is starting because she also makes uniforms. In these times, her daughter helps her.

She is going to use this loan to buy fabric, thread, buttons and other sewing materials. She has been with the communal bank for four years and she likes it because of the ease of acquiring loans.

Her dream is to have a big sewing workshop.
