A loan of $1,650 helped to buy meat, vegetables, rice, detergents, cold cuts and other basic household products.

Ana Jahaira's story

The San Pedro community bank meet every two weeks in the neighborhood of the same name, in the city of Manta. This city is well known for its beautiful beaches which are very popular year round. It is a city with many tourist attractions and a beauty which is second to none.

This is where Ana lives. Ana is 28 years old and lives with her common-law husband. The couple have three children who are 10, 7 and 4 years old. They are all attending school. Ana's husband is a chef's assistant in a restaurant.

Ana has a grocery store in her home where she sells all kinds of products such as rice, sugar, oil, detergents, vegetables and meat. She also sells some liquor. She works every day, from 6.00am to 10.00pm and sometimes until even later. Her husband helps her with her work when he has any free time. Ana has been in her business for four years. She started out with very little but as the months have passed, and with the help of loans, she has managed to increase and improve the business.

Ana will use this loan to further stock her store. She will buy meat, vegetables, rice, detergents, cold cuts and other basic household products. She has been a member of her community bank for five loan cycles and she likes it because she has made friends in her group.

Ana's goals are to continue working in her business and to further expand her store.
