A loan of $1,875 helped a member to buy second-hand clothes and seasonal fruit for resale.

Waloo Group's story

The Waloo solidarity group was created on 9 July 2011. It is made up of 15 women who are all neighbours and small-scale retailers. The head of the group is Maïmouna. She is 51 years old and married with 8 children. She also cares for her late sister's three children. Her business is selling second-hand clothing and seasonal fruit, and she benefits from 6 years experience. She is pictured on the right wearing blue and white Khartoum cloth and holding a booklet. Maïmouna buys and resells the fruit (mangoes, oranges, watermelons, etc.) and the second-hand clothing at the central market. With her loan she is planning to strengthen her business in order to attract many customers and increase her revenue. She helps her husband pay for her children's school fees and clothing.
