A loan of $850 helped buy an industrial stove, kitchen utensils and a large volume of basic ingredients.

Ferlina's story

Ferlina, 57, has a catering business. She began her business 4 years ago with breakfast, lunch and special dishes. Her main clientele are the many employees at the company where her daughter works, who have begun to trust, little by little, in her ability to make delicious meals. Ferlina employs someone to help transport the meals, while she is in full production. The results of her business present a level of sales that allow her to cover her operating costs. Her income is in cash, though she has some monies still owed to her because although she generally accepts only cash, some of her most loyal clients pay by credit. The toughest part is getting enough work capital together to improve her process, that’s why she is requesting her 1st Kiva loan through the Maria Santo Domingo Foundation. With this loan, she will buy an industrial stove, kitchen utensils and a large volume of basic ingredients. This is an exciting investment because she plans on buying product in large volume and by cash, which will lower her production costs. She wants to be competitive and well prepared with a strong business infrastructure and good offerings for her clients.
