Caroline is a single mother of one child, age 12. She has been in farming for two years and says these years have been her greatest years since she embarked on farming and providing her family with all the basic needs from her farming business. Her farm produces milk and pineapples.
Caroline has requested a loan of 30,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy a dairy cow. She says the income generated will help in providing basic family needs and, more specifically, educating her child. She adds that she has hopes the business will grow and enable her to establish a cereals wholesale business in the area.
She says pineapple is doing well in the area but laments a lack of better market prices.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
