Marleni's story

Marleni, 37, is a good, friendly and enterprising woman. She is married to Jorge, 45, with whom she has three children, Abigail, 13, Katerine, 12, and the youngest, Miluska, 6. She works hard to provide them with a better quality of life. She lives in her own house.

Every day Marleni gets up early to go to the market in search of the freshest and highest quality fish. She does so because her work consisting of selling ceviche (marinated fish cocktail). She puts her materials on the sidewalk in front of her house where she does her business. She is an expert cook and has hands blessed with the ability to concoct the best sauce for this dish.

Previously she had a stall in a market very near her house, but over time she became ill and had to find a way to continue working but without having to be away from home so much. She works alone, since she learned to develop a very fast work rhythm. She enjoys her work a great deal because she is able to have contact with customers and can talk with them. She loves starting conversations and while she works she has fun learning new ideas and different ways of thinking.

Marleni has many plans for the future but what she would most like is to be able to get better and return to set up her stall in the market for she generates more income there and has better profits. This will be her fifth loan with MFP and she is pleased to know that she will have financial support because she will be more assured of advancing in her work. She promises to make her payments on time as she has on her previous loans.

As well, she is grateful to be part of her communal bank because all the members are responsible and very supportive people. With the 1,500 nuevos soles requested she will purchase ingredients and supplies to continue preparing her delicious food and also replace some utensils and plates.
