A loan of $3,325 helped a member to buy sportswear.

Jardin Group's story

The "Jardin" communal bank will begin its first loan cycle at Pro Mujer, as part of the Villa Tejada regional office. It is is made up of eight members, and is led by a board of directors, of which Aida is the chair. The businesses that the members of the communal bank carry on are varied. They include small businesses selling pastries, cold cuts, home appliances, costume jewelry, pizza, desserts, school supplies, as well as a public telephone service. Aida says that this is the sixth year she has been working at Pro Mujer. She joined the institution at a friend's invitation. Currently she has a business selling sportswear, in which she has been working for years, having learned it from her mother. The loan she will take out now is to increase her working capital for purchase of the sportswear, which she acquires from the wholesalers and then sells at her stand. This type of work allows her to generate income for supporting her family, as she is in a common-law relationship and has three children. When you ask her what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answers that she likes the meetings and the health clinic. Aida is not shown in the photo, as she needed to get back to her place of work quickly.
