A loan of $3,600 helped a member to improve her working area and to buy better-quality fabric and materials.

Banaz's Group's story

Banaz is a married Iraqi woman with three children. She is 30 years old. Since she learned to sew at a young age, she has 12 years of experience behind the machine.

In the past, Banaz – along with her group members – took a loan from Relief International Microfinance Iraq, which allowed her to buy a new sewing machine.

Banaz is now taking a loan from Relief International Microfinance Iraq in the amount of $1200 to improve her working area and to buy better-quality fabric and materials. This will enable her to provide a wider selection and better-quality product for her customers.

Relief International Microfinance Iraq offers "group loans" to clients unable to qualify for a loan as an individual. As a group, the members collectively guarantee the loan. Groups consist of three to five clients, and each client is evaluated on his or her repayment capacity. All group members receive the same loan amount as the individual with the lowest repayment capacity in the group.
