A loan of $750 helped to purchase more merchandise (eggs, wholesale).

Yessica Maria's story

Yessica lives in Ica, Peru. Ica is located in the Sechura Desert about four hours south of Lima, the capital of the country and is acclaimed by Peruvians as “The Land of the Sun.” It is known in Peru for its frequent earthquakes (a 8.0 in 2007 and a 6.9 in 2011), its production of grapes, asparagus and olives and perhaps above all as the source of the traditional Peruvian drink, Pisco.

We find the client’s house and business in this hot, arid climate. In her spare time she enjoys going to visit her family. As is well known, Peru is characterized as having the most delicious food in the world and one of the dishes that Yessica enjoys a great deal is “arroz con pollo” (rice with chicken). She has studied until the fifth year of secondary school and would have liked to study to be a teacher. She lives with her partner who works as a master builder. They have two children, who are 7 and 11, both of whom are in primary school.

Yesica sells eggs and works 6 days a week, tending to up to 10 customers. She feels her business is going well because she offers a high quality product and provides good customer service.

Currently, Yessica is very grateful to Kiva lenders because, thanks to their help, she will be able to purchase more merchandise, which will enable her to have more products to sell. Thus she will increase her income and be able to continue working to fulfill her great dream: to finish building her house.
