Nino's story

Nino is a 45-year-old farmer from the village of Saghvine in West Georgia. She lives with her family: husband Nodar, 15-year-old daughter, 13-year-old son and 80-year-old mother-in-law. Nodar works as a fitter in a local gas company. Their children go to school. Nino is leading the agricultural business for her family, which is an important source of income for the family.

The family runs a small dairy farm with 2 milk cows and 2 calves. Nino produces cheese and sells on average 40 kg of this product in local open market. Along with the above-mentioned, the family owns 4 sheep and sell lambs in the village. The family also owns a vineyard with 600 vine-trees. Nodar produces wine and sells it in the same open market. The total average monthly income for the family is 600 Laris, including the pension of Nino’s mother-in-law.

Nino requested credit to purchase more sheep and to start-up of a beekeeping business. With part of the requested credit, she will purchase 3 beehives with bee colonies. Nino has experience in beekeeping. She will harvest honey twice in the year and sell it in local open market. The new business initiative, as well as the expansion of the sheep farm, will increase the income for the family. Nino plans to reinvest part of the increased income into further development of the beekeeping business. Also, they will be able to spend more to satisfy their daily needs and improve their living conditions.
