A loan of $1,125 helped to buy two bags of pea seeds and sacks of fertilizer.

Nancy's story

32-year-old Nancy is married to Teófilo and they have three children: 16-year-old Morelia, 8-year-old Aymer and 4-year-old Cristian. The family live in their own home, in Patay, in Palca-Tarma district. Nancy is an exemplary woman. Like all mothers who live in the country, she has to divide her time between caring for her children and farming.

Nancy grows peas, 'Única' potatoes and gladioli. "Every four months I sow two bags of pea seeds which produces a harvest of 30 sacks", she says. She negotiates the sale of all her crops in the wholesale market in Tarma.

Nancy says that she makes more income from selling her gladioli because there is a lot of demand in the cities of Huancayo, Lima and La Merced. Her gladioli sales are most profitable in the months of May and November.

Over time, Nancy hopes to have more money in her savings account so that she can acquire her own farmland and no longer have to pay rent. This will be her seventh loan from MFP and she pledges to be punctual in making her repayments. "Los Picaflores de Patay" is the name of her community bank and she feels happy with the work they do.

Nancy will invest her loan money in buying two bags of pea seeds for 1,200 soles. She will use the rest to buy sacks of organic fertilizer.
